Moira T. Lewis, 77, Beloved Educator and Air Force Civilian, Passes Away

URGENT UPDATE: Moira T. Lewis, a cherished educator and dedicated civilian worker with the U.S. Air Force, has passed away at the age of 77. Her family announced her death on October 18, 2025, leaving a profound impact on her community in Seabrook, NH.

Born on April 27, 1948, in Lowell, MA, Moira was the daughter of the late William and Margaret (Shanahan) McCarthy. She graduated from Keith Hall High School and later earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Salem Teachers College. Moira began her teaching career at Lowell High School, serving until 1984 before transitioning to a civilian role at Hanscom Air Force Base, contributing to research and laboratory development until her retirement in 2012.

Moira was known for her quick wit, unwavering love for animals, and her passion for Halloween festivities. She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, M. Douglas Lewis, and several family members, including her brother, William J. McCarthy, Jr., of Merrimack, NH, and her niece and nephew.

“Moira brought joy and laughter to everyone she met. She will be deeply missed,” stated her husband, M. Douglas Lewis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on November 1, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church located at 289 Lafayette Road, Hampton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the New Hampshire Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, PO Box 196, Stratham, NH 03885.
