This event came at a time when the future of the school faces uncertainty, as plans are in motion to close both Mountain Gap Middle and Elementary schools as part of a district-wide realignment.
During the celebration, attendees reflected on the school’s contributions to the community and the educational achievements of its students. “We’ve done a lot of right things in this city,” said Robert ‘Coach P’ Person, a long-time educator at Mountain Gap. He emphasized the positive impact the school has made, stating, “You can look and see by the product we put out there, that being our kids and our scores reflect that.”

As discussions about the future continue, the sense of community remains strong. “It’s just been a treasure to be here. An honor to be able to say I worked at Mountain Gap. Plus, my wife also went here. So that’s kind of a bonus there,” Coach P added, underscoring the personal connections that define the school’s legacy.
