UPDATE: Colorado Avalanche superstar Nathan MacKinnon has just hit a remarkable milestone, scoring his 400th career NHL goal against the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday night. This exciting achievement occurred just 3:13 into the first period and was quickly followed by his 401st goal only moments later.
MacKinnon’s first goal came on a rebound shot against Jordan Binnington, the newly-minted Olympic goaltender. His second strike occurred at 4:39 of the opening frame, showcasing his elite skill and precision. With these two goals, MacKinnon becomes the third player in Avalanche history to reach the 400-goal mark, joining legends Joe Sakic (625 goals) and Michael Goulet (456 goals).
This significant achievement underscores MacKinnon’s dominance in the league. He already holds the record for the most goals scored since the franchise’s relocation to Denver, surpassing Sakic’s previous record of 391 goals as of December 11, 2022.
Currently, MacKinnon leads the NHL with 34 goals this season and ranks second in overall points, only behind Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers. Although he has yet to clinch a Rocket Richard Trophy for most goals or an Art Ross Trophy for most points, he has consistently demonstrated his scoring prowess, leading the NHL in points for three consecutive calendar years from 2023 to 2025.
In addition to his impressive regular-season accomplishments, MacKinnon boasts 55 career goals in Stanley Cup Playoffs across 95 postseason games, the highest in the league since he entered in 2013.
Looking ahead, MacKinnon has been named to Canada’s 25-man roster for the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy, marking his first Olympic appearance. This announcement, made just hours ago, also includes fellow Avalanche stars Cale Makar and Devon Toews, further solidifying Canada’s chances for a successful campaign on the international stage.
As the Avalanche continue their strong season, fans can expect to see more electrifying performances from MacKinnon as he chases further records and leads his team into the playoffs.
Stay tuned for more updates on MacKinnon’s journey and the Avalanche’s pursuit of the Stanley Cup.
