Nemours Children’s Health Launches Urgent Equine Therapy Program

UPDATE: Nemours Children’s Health in Jacksonville, Florida, has just announced a transformative partnership with the North Florida School of Special Education (NFSSE) to launch an innovative equine therapy program for children. Starting October 17, 2023, this initiative aims to provide essential animal-assisted therapy through the use of miniature horses.
This collaboration is set to enhance the lives of children with chronic medical conditions by integrating equine-assisted activities into their therapeutic routines. The miniature horses from NFSSE’s Delores Barr Weaver Therapeutic Equestrian Center will regularly visit Nemours Children’s Health, creating a unique environment where healing and joy intersect.
The program not only benefits the children receiving therapy but also fosters community interaction by allowing NFSSE students to engage with Nemours’ services. This inclusive approach promotes a shared experience that enhances emotional well-being and community ties.
The Rotary Club of East Arlington has stepped up to support this initiative by donating a specially designed horse trailer, ensuring that the therapy horses can be easily transported from the equestrian center to the healthcare facility. This vital contribution enables the program to reach more children in need, amplifying its positive impact.
In an official statement, Nemours emphasized the importance of consistent access to trained therapy horses and handlers, which significantly increases the effectiveness and safety of the therapy offered.
As this program launches, both Nemours and NFSSE are poised to witness the profound effects that equine therapy can have on children’s health and happiness. The community is eager to see how these miniature horses will bring smiles and healing to young patients.
Stay tuned for further updates on this groundbreaking partnership as it unfolds. The implications for mental health and physical healing through such innovative therapies are immense, making this an initiative to watch closely.
