Philadelphia Police Deliver 425 Thanksgiving Meals to Families in Need

UPDATE: As part of its annual initiative, the Philadelphia Police Department is delivering 425 Thanksgiving meal boxes to families in need this afternoon. This effort, dubbed Operation Thanksgiving, is the result of months of preparation and community support, with police officers personally bringing the meals to families in their neighborhoods.

The initiative kicked off earlier today, November 21, 2023, with police officers gathering at their headquarters to pick up the boxes filled with traditional Thanksgiving staples. Each box contains turkey, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, cake mix, green beans, canned goods, stuffing sauce, cornbread, and gravy, ensuring families have everything they need for a festive holiday meal.

A staggering 16,000 items were generously donated by police officers, with additional support from volunteers, including students from Roman High School. These students played a vital role in packing the meal boxes, showcasing community spirit and commitment to helping those in need.

Each meal box features a heartfelt note from Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel, conveying warm wishes and a message of support from the police department. This initiative not only provides food but also fosters a sense of connection between the police and the communities they serve.

As officers head out to deliver these meals, the impact of their actions is felt throughout Philadelphia. The personal delivery of these boxes aims to strengthen community ties and ensure that families can celebrate Thanksgiving together, even in challenging times.

Residents are encouraged to share this uplifting story on social media, highlighting the importance of community support and the role of local law enforcement in making a difference. With the holiday season upon us, such initiatives remind us of the power of giving and the impact we can have on one another’s lives.
