URGENT UPDATE: A Rocky Mount man has been charged with attempted murder after his girlfriend was shot multiple times at their residence on Saturday, October 14, 2023. The incident occurred in the 10000 block of Speights Chapel Road, just northeast of Whitakers, North Carolina.
According to the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received reports of a gunman involved in a domestic dispute. While en route, a second call was received about a female victim who had been shot. Upon arrival, deputies discovered the woman suffering from multiple apparent gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services quickly transported the victim to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville. Her condition remains undisclosed as authorities continue their investigation.
Detectives were dispatched to the scene, where they identified the suspect as Hayward Mann, aged 49. After fleeing the scene, Mann was located and arrested without incident. He was found in possession of a gun, which has been recovered by deputies.
Mann has been charged with felony attempted first-degree murder and is currently being held without bond in the Edgecombe County Detention Center. He is scheduled to appear in district court on Wednesday morning at the Edgecombe County Courthouse in Tarboro.
