Sam Smith’s Castro Theatre Residency Sells Out Quickly, Few Seats Left

UPDATE: Grammy-winning singer Sam Smith‘s highly anticipated residency at the newly renovated Castro Theatre is selling out fast, with just a few seats remaining for select dates. Following the overwhelming demand, this residency has now expanded to a total of 20 shows, starting on February 10 and concluding on March 14.
The initial announcement by Another Planet Entertainment (APE) revealed an eight-show run, which quickly grew to sixteen and now to twenty, reflecting Smith’s immense popularity. As part of a revitalization effort, the Castro Theatre is set to reopen, and Smith’s performances are expected to attract significant foot traffic to the Castro neighborhood.
Newly added dates on March 13 and March 14 have already sold out, leaving only a limited number of tickets available for shows on March 10 and March 11. The excitement surrounding these performances is palpable, as the community prepares for the cultural revival the theatre represents.
In a nod to the local LGBTQ community, Smith recently filmed a music video in and around the Castro Theatre, featuring a cover of Bill Withers’s classic, “Ain’t No Sunshine.” The video, which highlights the vibrant atmosphere of the neighborhood, has sparked discussions online, particularly about its portrayal of smoking.
Adding to the urgency, APE has yet to announce any further bookings for the Castro Theatre past Smith’s residency, which raises questions about the venue’s future events. Community members are closely monitoring developments, especially regarding the fate of local businesses like Castro Coffee Company and Castro Nail Salon. Both establishments were initially slated for eviction to make way for new box office space, but community pushback may influence APE’s plans.
The Castro Theatre’s revival is seen as a crucial step for the local economy, and residents are eager for the positive changes it will bring. The anticipation builds as Smith prepares to take the stage, marking a significant moment for both the artist and the community.
Stay tuned for more updates as ticket availability changes and more details about the Castro Theatre’s future emerge.
