Sandfall Interactive Confirms No Expansion for Next Game Despite Huge Success

URGENT UPDATE: Sandfall Interactive, the indie studio behind the acclaimed game Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, has confirmed that its next project will not be a larger-scale development, despite the game’s overwhelming success. In an exclusive interview with Edge magazine, CEO and creative director Guillaume Broche stated that the studio prefers to maintain its creative limitations.

Just recently, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 made headlines by winning nine awards out of twelve nominations at The Game Awards 2025, including Game of the Year. Broche expressed surprise at the game’s reception, revealing that the team could not have anticipated its massive success. “It was completely unexpected from pretty much everybody,” he said.

Despite having the financial resources to scale up, Broche emphasized, “I would say it’s not tempting for us… We love making games more than we love managing.” He believes that having limitations fosters creativity, allowing the team to focus on creating high-quality content without the pressures of extensive management.

The success of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has been a turning point for the studio, with Broche describing the past five years as “some of the best of my life.” The team plans to continue focusing on one game at a time to preserve their creative vision. Producer François Meurisse noted that the team’s expectations were carefully managed during production, stating, “Much of my work is to manage expectations… but it was worth the trouble, because we exceeded by far the best that we could have expected.”

As for future projects, Broche hinted that Expedition 33 is not the end of the franchise. “Clair Obscur is the franchise name,” he confirmed, indicating that fans can anticipate more from this captivating universe.

In addition to this announcement, Sandfall Interactive is set to release a new update for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, featuring new dungeons, boss battles, and a Photo Mode. This update aims to entice both late-game players and newcomers back into the somber world of Lumiere.

This news comes as a reminder of the studio’s commitment to quality over quantity, making it a crucial moment for fans and industry observers alike. Stay tuned for more updates as Sandfall Interactive continues to carve its niche in the gaming world.
