Solange Knowles Launches Zine on Amaza Lee Meredith, Redefines Fashion

UPDATE: Solange Knowles has just redefined sheer dressing while launching her creative agency’s latest publication, ‘Azurest Blue: The Life and Legacy of Amaza Lee.’ Earlier today, Knowles hosted a captivating event at the Surrogate’s Court, showcasing a unique blend of fashion and literature that has grabbed immediate attention.

Attending the event on July 25, 2023, Knowles donned a striking ensemble from Ferragamo that featured a sheer bodice and a sculptural skirt, merging high fashion with intellectual flair. The outfit, part of Maximillian Davis’s Fall 2025 runway collection, incorporated a stunning gold shearling panel, achieving a look that radiated librarian-chic authority. As she paired her outfit with pointed black heels and pearl drop earrings, Knowles proved that fashion can be both captivating and thought-provoking.

The event celebrated the launch of the zine, which chronicles the incredible life of Amaza Lee Meredith, a pioneering Black and queer architect. Meredith, who co-founded Azurest North, a safe haven for Black Americans during segregation, also established the art department at Virginia State University in 1935. The publication features personal archives, blueprints, and essays from notable contemporary figures in the art world, showcasing Meredith’s enduring legacy.

“We started the research for this book five years ago at the height of the pandemic and faced significant challenges accessing her archives as libraries were closed,” Knowles stated. She emphasized the deep connection her team developed with Meredith’s spirit and life during the zine’s creation. “We became so intensely close to her spirit, her life, and the imaginings of how she lived and loved.”

This launch marks a significant moment not just for Knowles and Saint Heron, but for the arts community, as it highlights the often-overlooked contributions of Black artists. The zine aims to inspire new conversations about representation and legacy, making it relevant for audiences today.

As the art world takes notice, the next steps for Knowles and Saint Heron remain crucial. Fans and followers can expect further discussions and engagements around the themes presented in this impactful publication.
