UPDATE: In a stunning display of teamwork and skill, Soquel High’s boys basketball team triumphed over Watsonville High with a decisive score of 77-42 during a nonleague match held on January 5, 2024. This victory marks a significant turnaround for the Knights, who have struggled offensively in recent games.
Soquel jumped out to an early lead, dominating the first quarter with a score of 29-11 and extending the gap to 48-16 by halftime. Senior center Connor Corlett led the charge with an impressive 16 points and 12 rebounds. Coach Chris Christensen praised his team’s unselfish play, stating, “We moved the ball better tonight and created open shots for each other.”
The Knights showcased their shooting prowess, sinking 11 three-pointers, with senior Miles Johnson contributing 14 points to the scoreboard. Juniors Ryan Grilli and Mason Esters each added nine points, demonstrating the depth of talent on the team.
Watsonville’s leading scorer, senior forward/center Anthony Razo, finished with nine points. The Wildcatz, now 4-2 overall, will look to rebound as they prepare to face Saint Francis of Mountain View on January 9 at 3 p.m..
