As of Sunday evening, December 14, 2025, a GoFundMe initiated by the Stewartville Wrestling Booster Club has raised over $25,000, surpassing its original goal of $22,000.
The tragedy unfolded early Friday morning, December 12, around 5 a.m., in the parking lot of Stewartville High School. Authorities confirmed that a male adult was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, while a student remains critically injured. The identities of those involved have not been released.

“Our hearts are with the victims, their families, friends, coaches, and everyone affected,”
the club stated. They called upon the community to unite in support during this difficult time, emphasizing shared values of strength and resilience.
The shooting occurred as the school’s wrestling team prepared for a tournament in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Olmsted County Sheriff Kevin Torgerson stated during a press conference that the cause of the incident remains under investigation. “We don’t know anything that led up to this at all, at this point,” he remarked, indicating that further details will be shared in an upcoming press conference on Monday.
In addition to the GoFundMe, donations are being accepted at any Eagle Rock Bank branch under the “Stewartville Wrestling Benefit Account.” Local business Full Court Custom Apparel Inc. is contributing by donating 100% of the proceeds from shirt sales directly to the affected families.
Community support has poured in from neighboring wrestling programs, including Dover-Eyota, Plainview-Elgin-Millville, Century, and Mayo, which have collectively donated hundreds of dollars to the fund. Notably, the Clash National Wrestling Duals event contributed a generous donation of $1,000.
