Urgent Action Needed: Fox in Broomall Trapped by Plastic Tube

UPDATE: A fox in Broomall, Pennsylvania, is in urgent need of rescue after being spotted with a piece of plastic tubing tightly stuck around its neck. This alarming situation was captured on video by local resident Bill Shuker around 2 a.m. on October 1, raising immediate concern among community members and animal rescuers.
The distressing footage shows the fox wandering near Shuker’s chicken coop, appearing to search for food. “I think he was looking for something to eat,” Shuker reported. Upon closer examination, he realized the tubing extends from the animal’s head down to its neck, raising fears for the fox’s health and survival.
Animal rescue group Good Boy Dog Recovery has stepped in to assist after being alerted by concerned residents. President Colleen Bell stated that the fox is likely suffering from an obstruction caused by scavenging for food or trying to access a cat shelter. “The longer he has it on, the more difficult it’s going to be for him to hydrate and eat,” Bell warned. With winter approaching, the urgency to remove the tubing is critical.
The group’s intervention includes deploying humane traps, live surveillance cameras, and thermal drone technology to locate and rescue the fox. “We know we have the resources and expertise to help in a situation like this,” Bell emphasized, showcasing the commitment of the organization.
Currently, the fox’s whereabouts are unknown, but Bell and her team are collaborating with the Pocono Wildlife and Rehab Center to develop a strategic trapping plan. Community members are encouraged to report any sightings of the fox while being advised against approaching it. “It’s incredibly important that people do not approach the fox,” Bell cautioned. “They certainly could – and will – bite. We don’t want anyone getting injured.”
Fortunately, Shuker noted that while predators are common near his coop, there have been no casualties among his chickens. “Fortunately for the chickens, at a certain time they go into the coop and the door shuts – so they’re safe that way,” he said.
As the situation develops, authorities are emphasizing the importance of public vigilance. Witnesses are urged to document the day, time, and direction of the fox’s movements and share this information with Good Boy Dog Recovery.
This incident highlights the urgent need for community action and awareness regarding wildlife safety. As rescuers work tirelessly to save the fox, the local community is coming together, demonstrating compassion and concern for this vulnerable animal.
Stay tuned for updates as efforts to rescue the fox continue.
