Urgent Auditions for “Annie” Scheduled Dec. 13 at MAC

URGENT UPDATE: Auditions for the beloved musical “Annie” are happening December 13, 2023, at Mineral Area College (MAC). This is a unique opportunity for aspiring performers to take the stage in a classic story that has captivated audiences for generations.

Auditions kick off at 10 a.m. for actors aged 14 and under, and continue at 3 p.m. for those aged 15 and up. Callbacks are set for December 14 at 6 p.m. at MAC. Participants are required to prepare a 60- to 90-second song and bring their own accompaniment track (no backup vocals) on a Bluetooth-compatible device. Note that acapella auditions are not allowed, and video submissions will not be accepted.

Directing the production is Kaity Conaway, a teacher from Farmington who expresses her excitement about bringing this treasured musical to life. “I’m super excited to get to direct Annie because it’s one of the first movie musicals I remember watching as a kid,” Conaway shared. “It’s one of the ones that made me want to do theatre.”

Those interested in auditioning should dress in appropriate dance attire and come prepared to memorize both the dance and relevant monologues. Audition preparation bundles, including character monologues and a choreography video, will be emailed to actors upon submission of their audition forms.

Roles available include Annie, Warbucks, Grace Farrell, Miss Hannigan, Rooster, Lily, and many more. Rehearsals will take place on weekdays from January 5 to February 25, 2024, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Performances are scheduled for February 26-28 at 7 p.m. and March 1 at 3 p.m.

Conaway is particularly enthusiastic about the musical’s choreography, stating, “Annie has so many fun opportunities for choreography, both dance and just organized movement, so I’m super excited to see what that looks like.” She looks forward to collaborating with choreographers Janna Hagerty and London Miscisin, who have already impressed her with their creativity.

This production marks Conaway’s first directorial role outside the Farmington School District, adding an exciting layer to her experience. “I’m excited to learn how it’s different and what it looks like from a director’s perspective to do a show with a different theatre,” she explained.

With auditions just around the corner, this is a moment for aspiring young talents to shine. Don’t miss your chance to be part of this iconic musical. Spread the word and prepare to take the stage at MAC!
