Urgent: Family of 8 Displaced After Early Morning Fire in Chilton

BREAKING: A family of eight has been left homeless following a devastating fire early this morning in the Township of Chilton. The fire, which broke out around 5:30 a.m. on October 21, 2023, caused extensive damage to their home on Hickory Hills Road.

Upon arrival, the Chilton Fire Department found heavy smoke and flames engulfing the first floor of the residence. Fortunately, all family members managed to escape and were transported to Ascension Calumet Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. They have since been released. Tragically, a firefighter sustained injuries during the rescue efforts but was also treated and released.

Firefighters initially attempted to combat the blaze from within the home but were forced to switch to an exterior approach as the fire rapidly compromised the structure. After battling the flames, they successfully contained the fire to the second floor, preventing it from spreading to the attic.

The home has suffered significant damage from fire, smoke, and water, leading the Chilton Fire Department to confirm that the family has lost all of their belongings. In response, the community has rallied together to support the family. Local residents have initiated a clothing donation drive to help those affected.

Multiple fire departments, including those from Hilbert, Potter, Stockbridge, New Holstein, and Harrison, joined the Chilton Fire Department in battling the blaze. The Calumet County Sheriff’s Office and emergency medical responders from Gold Cross Ambulance of the Fox Valley also provided assistance at the scene.

As the investigation into the cause of the fire continues, the community is urged to contribute support for the displaced family during this challenging time. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
