Urgent: Nor’easter Set to Slam New Jersey with Winds and Rain
UPDATE: A powerful nor’easter is poised to hit New Jersey starting Wednesday, October 25, 2023, bringing a dangerous mix of gusty winds, heavy rain, and the risk of significant beach erosion along the Jersey Shore. With the storm expected to peak late Wednesday night through Thursday night, residents are urged to prepare for severe weather.
The National Weather Service warns that while the exact timing and rainfall totals are still being determined, conditions favor a strong storm system. “The setup favors a storm, however, the details regarding its strength and exact track remain uncertain,” officials stated. This developing situation could impact outdoor activities, including Halloween trick-or-treating on Friday night.
Residents from Atlantic County to Burlington County should brace for extended periods of gusty winds, potentially reaching gale force. The storm’s onshore flow could lead to coastal flooding and considerable beach erosion, particularly in areas still recovering from previous storms. “Already sensitive coastal/back bay communities may experience strong winds, coastal flooding, and potentially significant beach erosion,” the weather service cautioned.
Before the nor’easter arrives, New Jersey will experience cool conditions. Tonight, temperatures are expected to drop significantly, prompting frost advisories across several counties, including Cape May and Cumberland. Lows will range from near freezing in northern areas to the low 40s along the coast. Monday will see highs only reaching the lower to mid-50s, remaining about 5 degrees below normal for this time of year.
As the storm approaches, residents should stay informed about the latest updates and prepare for possible power outages and travel disruptions. Monitoring local news and weather reports will be crucial as this situation unfolds.
With Halloween just around the corner, families should stay vigilant and have contingency plans in place. The weather service emphasizes that although the storm should clear by Halloween, lingering winds may still pose challenges for those celebrating the holiday.
Stay tuned for more updates as this weather system develops.
