Veterans Honored Across LA County with Powerful Ceremonies

UPDATE: Thousands of Los Angeles County residents united today to honor veterans during powerful ceremonies across the region. The largest event, the San Fernando Valley Veterans Day Parade, attracted approximately 20,000 attendees in Mission Hills, celebrating the sacrifices of 2,000 veterans from multiple eras, including World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.

The parade kicked off at 11:11 AM on November 11, a symbolic time marking the end of World War I in 1918. Participants marched along a route that started at Laurel Canyon and San Fernando Mission boulevards, concluding at Paxton Street in Pacoima. The theme, “Honoring those who served past and present,” resonated deeply with the crowd.

Among the honored were grand marshals Gunnery Sgt. Martin Lopez and Pvt. Gregory Garcia, both veterans who served with pride. The event showcased various community performances, including local marching bands and special appearances from decorated veterans.

In Pasadena, the Veterans Day Ceremony at City Hall highlighted the legacy of Medal of Honor recipient Lt. Colonel Raymond G. Harvey, with local officials praising his bravery. The ceremony included a flyover by the Condor Squadron and performances by local music groups. Mayor Victor Gordo emphasized the importance of remembering those who serve.

At the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, the annual event featured a reenactment of the Iwo Jima flag-raising and a keynote address from retired Army Sergeant Eric Donoho. “We honor our veterans not just for their service but for the sacrifices they and their families have made,” said library officials.

Meanwhile, in Long Beach, the legendary Queen Mary hosted a day of festivities, inviting veterans and their families to enjoy free admission and special programming. Local leaders expressed gratitude for the service of military personnel, highlighting the community’s commitment to honoring their sacrifices.

Additionally, ceremonies in Hermosa Beach and Baldwin Park included speeches from city officials, with Hermosa Beach Mayor Rob Saemann acknowledging the deep bonds formed through military service. The city’s events featured patriotic music, community activities, and free giveaways for veterans.

As communities across LA County came together, the spirit of gratitude and respect for veterans was palpable. This day serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by those who have served, and the ongoing commitment to honoring their legacy.

The celebrations will continue throughout the week, with several events planned to further recognize the contributions of veterans. Residents are encouraged to participate, ensuring that the sacrifices of these heroes remain at the forefront of community consciousness.
