Bomb Explosion in Moscow Claims Lives of Three, Including Police Officers

A bomb explosion in Moscow on March 13, 2024, resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including two police officers. The incident occurred as the officers approached a man exhibiting suspicious behavior near the site of a recent car bombing that killed a senior Russian general. The Russian authorities have attributed the earlier attack to Ukrainian intelligence.

The Russian State Investigative Committee reported that the two police officers were killed by an explosive device when they approached the man. A third victim was also confirmed, though authorities did not disclose the identity of this individual. The committee has initiated criminal proceedings under laws concerning the murder of law enforcement officers and the illegal trafficking of explosives.

Residents in the vicinity reported a loud bang, reminiscent of the recent car explosion. One resident named Alexander described the sound as a “loud bang – like with the car a few days ago.” Another local, Roza, stated that she was awakened by the explosion, noting that her entire building appeared to shake.

According to unofficial reports on Russian Telegram channels, the individual presumed to be the bomber was among the deceased, having detonated the explosive device when approached by the officers. These details have not been independently verified.

The blast occurred close to the location where Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, who headed the Russian General Staff’s army operational training directorate, was killed just two days prior. Russian officials have suggested that Ukraine may be behind Sarvarov’s assassination, although there has been no official response from Ukrainian authorities regarding this claim. Following the general’s death, the Myrotvorets website, which maintains a database of individuals labeled as war criminals or traitors, updated its entry to indicate that the 56-year-old general had been “liquidated.”

As the conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues, a series of high-profile assassinations of Russian military figures and war supporters have occurred, with Ukrainian military intelligence reportedly claiming responsibility for several of these attacks. The situation remains tense as investigations into the latest explosion and its implications unfold.
