Hyundai Launches Locally-assembled Staria MPV in Malaysia

Hyundai Motor has officially launched sales of its locally assembled Staria multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) in Malaysia. This significant step follows the commencement of production at a plant in *Kulim*, located in the state of *Kedah*, earlier this month. The facility is owned by *Inokom Corporation*, which is primarily controlled by local vehicle assembler and distributor *Sime Darby Motors*, with *Hyundai* holding a *15%* stake.
Earlier this year, Hyundai established a new subsidiary in Malaysia, named *Hyundai Motor Malaysia (HMY)*, to enhance its investment and manage operations at the Kulim plant in partnership with Sime Darby. The launch signifies Hyundai’s commitment to the Malaysian market, showcasing its confidence in the region as a growing hub for future assembly operations.
Local Production Highlights Hyundai’s Commitment
In a statement regarding the launch, HMY’s president, *Eric Lee*, emphasized that the start of local production for the Hyundai Staria is “more than just a production achievement.” He added that it reflects Hyundai’s confidence in Malaysia as a vital market and an expanding center for future assembly endeavors.
*Inokom Corporation’s* managing director, *Sui Keng Huat*, shared insights into the company’s evolution. “From humble beginnings, we have grown into a trusted assembly partner within Hyundai’s global network,” he noted. Huat highlighted that every vehicle produced at the plant is crafted with precision and care, adhering fully to Hyundai’s global standards, and is driven entirely by *100% Malaysian talent*.
Sime Darby Motors also confirmed that HMY is “committed to fostering stronger supply chains and supporting the nation’s industrial ecosystem.” This initiative not only strengthens Hyundai’s presence in Malaysia but also contributes to the local economy by creating jobs and enhancing skills within the automotive sector.
The launch of the Staria MPV marks a pivotal moment for Hyundai as it seeks to deepen its roots in Malaysia. The vehicle is set to cater to the growing demand for versatile transportation options in the region, combining functionality with Hyundai’s hallmark innovation and design.
As production ramps up, the collaboration between Hyundai, Inokom, and Sime Darby Motors is expected to yield positive outcomes for all stakeholders involved, solidifying Malaysia’s position as an essential player in the automotive assembly landscape.
