PennDOT has announced the closure of 9th Street at Vine Street in Center City Philadelphia, effective from October 20, 2023. This closure is part of an $8.5 million safety improvement project aimed at enhancing roadway conditions and utility infrastructure. The intersection will remain closed and detoured 24 hours a day until February 3, 2026.

Detour Routes and Project Details

Motorists traveling northbound will be redirected to Arch Street, 11th Street, and Vine Street. Those heading southbound will follow Callowhill Street or Ridge Avenue, then 10th Street to Vine Street, starting from November 3. The construction project includes significant improvements such as reducing lanes on Vine Street, upgrading traffic signals, adding ADA-compliant ramps, implementing bike lanes, and repaving the roadway.

All construction activities are contingent on weather conditions, which may affect the timeline of the project.
