In response to the December ambush, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed on social media that U.S. partner forces had eliminated the individual responsible for that attack. “The death of a terrorist operative linked to the deaths of three Americans demonstrates our resolve in pursuing terrorists who attack our forces,” stated Adm. Brad Cooper, CENTCOM commander. “There is no safe place for those who conduct, plot, or inspire attacks on American citizens and our warfighters. We will find you.”
U.S. President Donald Trump previously vowed retaliation following the ambush, labeling it “an ISIS attack against the U.S.” The recent strike against al-Jasim is part of a broader counterterrorism initiative aimed at dismantling ISIS operations in Syria.
