Ferriday Trojans Dominate Tensas Parish in Rayville Tournament

Ferriday High School’s varsity basketball teams showcased their strength at the Rayville Tournament, remaining undefeated after decisive victories over Tensas Parish High School on December 26, 2023. The Ferriday Lady Trojans triumphed over the Tensas Parish Lady Panthers with a commanding score of 68-29, while the Ferriday Trojans defeated the Tensas Parish Panthers 91-35 in the boys’ competition.

In the girls’ match, Ferriday’s performance was highlighted by a strong start, taking a lead of 22-12 by the end of the first quarter. The Lady Trojans significantly increased their advantage in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Panthers 24-4 to lead 46-16 at halftime. Despite Tensas Parish managing to outscore Ferriday 8-5 in the third quarter, the Lady Trojans maintained a comfortable lead at 51-24.

The final quarter saw Ferriday return to form offensively, adding 17 points while restricting Tensas Parish to just five. A’Ziyah Jefferson led all scorers with an impressive 26 points, supported by Chermika Jones with 15 points and Cherish Early contributing 12 points. Additional scores came from McKenzie Clay and Shyzerria Scott, each with six points, while Zemi Milligan added three. For Tensas Parish, Abrielle Hill was the standout performer with 12 points, followed by Autrice Vaughn with six.

Following this victory, the Lady Trojans improved their overall record to 7-2 and were set to face the Rayville High School Lady Hornets on December 27, 2023. The final score of that match remains unreported. They will next host Peabody Magnet High School on December 30, 2023, at 18:00.

In the boys’ game, the Ferriday Trojans, ranked No. 1 in the LHSAA Non-Select Division IV, continued their strong form after defeating Wossman High School the previous night. They controlled the match against Tensas Parish from the start, leading 22-10 after the first quarter. Although Tensas Parish managed to keep the score competitive, trailing 49-33 at halftime, the second half was dominated by Ferriday. They outscored Tensas Parish 25-11 in the third quarter, extending their lead to 74-44, and finished the game strong with a 17-9 advantage in the final quarter.

Five players for the Trojans scored in double figures, with Macia Maxon, Robert Taylor, and Jammion Woods each contributing 12 points. BeBe Terrell and C.J. Washington added 10 points apiece. D. Percy led the Panthers with 17 points, followed by A. Brown with 13 points.

Having completed the tournament with a perfect record of 2-0, the Trojans improved their overall season record to 13-0. They will next compete in the Jefferson County Shootout, facing South Pike High School on December 27, 2023, at 15:00.
