UPDATE: A double shooting that left two victims dead has rocked the area near The Players Championship, with authorities confirming the suspect’s identity as Christian Joseph Barrios, a 32-year-old felon on probation. The incident occurred around 10:30 PM on March 13, 2025, in a Walgreens parking lot on N. Florida A1A, Ponte Vedra Beach.
Both victims, who were known to each other, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and sadly did not survive. Their identities and ages have not yet been disclosed. St. Johns County Sheriff Robert Hardwick labeled the shooting a “domestic violence situation,” but specific details about the circumstances remain under investigation.
Authorities apprehended Barrios a few hours later in Nassau County, and he is now facing multiple charges. Sheriff Hardwick expressed deep frustration over Barrios’ extensive criminal history, stating, “This thug’s criminal history is embarrassing. It makes me sick to my stomach.” Barrios has a troubling record with around 27 arrests spanning various offenses since 2016, including drug possession and grand theft auto.
Barrios had been on supervised release due to a drug offender probation, set to expire on August 14, 2027, stemming from charges in Duval County. He was released from prison just months ago on July 7, 2025, after serving time for grand theft auto.
Sheriff Hardwick noted the emotional toll of the event, emphasizing the community’s grief: “Here we are dumping all these resources and families are gonna mourn two people that were shot and killed in a parking lot of Walgreens over a domestic violence situation.”
