Layton Police Hunt Suspect in Violent Unprovoked Gas Station Attack

Layton Police Urgently Seek Suspect in Shocking Gas Station Attack

The Layton Police Department is actively searching for a man who violently attacked a local resident walking his dogs outside a Chevron gas station on Hill Field Road and Antelope Drive on the evening of April 28. The assault was reportedly unprovoked and captured on surveillance video, revealing a swift and brutal confrontation that ended with the suspect fleeing the scene armed with a stolen knife.

Lieutenant Clint Bobrowski confirmed that the victim called 911 while running and shouting for help, indicating a dangerous and escalating altercation. “Dispatch reported that the victim sounded like he was running and asking for help,” Bobrowski said.

Violent Encounter Caught on Camera

Surveillance footage shows a man wearing a green hoodie confronting the dog owner. According to police, the suspect approached aggressively, screaming, and then attempted to kick one of the victim’s dogs. A physical fight ensued, with the attacker landing punches on the victim.

In an effort to defend himself, the victim’s dog bit the suspect, and the victim at one point brandished a knife which was knocked away during the scuffle. The suspect then fled the scene, stealing the knife and heading toward Quail Cove Apartments.

“There’s a couple of aspects to this one,” said Bobrowski, outlining the charges under investigation, including assault and theft of the weapon. Despite the violent nature of the incident, authorities stress the event appears to be isolated and not a threat to the general public.

Community Reacts with Concern and Caution

Longtime Layton resident Ko-Ko Kabwasa expressed shock over the attack, which he described as out of character for an area he frequents daily with his pets. “It’s kind of scary just to kind of see what the world’s come into, I guess,” Kabwasa said. He questioned the motive behind the attack, especially the targeting of the victim’s dogs.

Layton Police urge the public not to approach the suspect if identified. Authorities are asking anyone who recognizes the man in the video to contact their tip line at 497-8300 and reference case L26-10572.

Police are continuing their investigation and reviewing additional evidence to locate the attacker. The case highlights the rare but serious risks faced by residents during routine outdoor activities and underscores the importance of vigilance and community cooperation in ensuring public safety.

The Layton Police Department remains committed to keeping neighborhood streets safe and will provide updates as the search progresses.

“This seems to be an isolated event,” Lieutenant Bobrowski said, reassuring the community while urging anyone with information to come forward.
