Maurepas Lady Wolves Crush Hackberry 10-2 to Advance to Class C Semifinals

The Maurepas Lady Wolves surged to a commanding 10-2 road victory over the third-seeded Hackberry Lady Hawks in the Class C quarterfinals on April 24, punching their ticket to the state semifinals in Sulphur, Louisiana.

Led by a relentless offense and dominant pitching, Maurepas, seeded sixth, took control early, racing to a 5-1 lead within just two innings. The Lady Wolves extended their advantage to 6-1 in the third before Hackberry managed a brief rally, cutting the gap to 6-2.

The Lady Wolves sealed the game with consistent run production, adding another run in the fourth and a powerful three-run surge in the seventh inning to close out the lopsided victory.

Standout Performances Propel Maurepas

Layla Robinson led the charge offensively, going 2-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI, while Saydie Sterling contributed a double and two runs combined. Khloe Luquette energized the lineup with a crucial home run, two RBIs, and a run scored in a two-hit day. Additional key hits came from Gabby Bell, Heydi Quamme, and Kayden Delatte, all driving in or crossing the plate multiple times.

On the mound, winning pitcher Sidney Lauzervich dominated through every inning, surrendering only two runs on four hits while amassing an impressive 13 strikeouts. Her command was evident despite five walks, helping keep the Hackberry offense in check throughout the game.

“I’m super proud of our girls! Having experienced the Louisiana state tournament as an athlete myself, I’m ready to see them as a coach experience this for their first time,” said Maurepas head coach Gabrielle Varnado. “They’ve worked hard all season and they deserve to be there!”

Maurepas will take on second-seeded Claiborne Christian in the Class C semifinals on May 1 at 2:30 p.m. The upcoming matchup promises to test the Lady Wolves as they continue their push deep into the Louisiana state softball tournament.
