Mount Ayr’s golf teams swept both boys and girls dual meets on Creston’s senior night, hitting competitive heights at Crestmoor Golf Club Friday. The dominant wins highlight Mount Ayr’s strength as they prepare for upcoming regional play.
The highly contested boys varsity dual saw Creston’s Marshall Long clinch medalist honors with a 40, narrowly edging Mount Ayr’s Avery Wolfe, who shot a 41. Despite Long’s top score, Mount Ayr’s collective performance secured the victory, posting a team score of 174 to Creston’s 183. Mount Ayr’s lineup also featured strong rounds by Jaxson Greene (43), Tanner Streit (45), Drew Graham (45), Adler Reed (49), and Tytan Gourley (51).
On the JV side, both Javin Hyde (Creston) and Carter Levine (Mount Ayr shot 44s, showcasing emerging talent on both squads.
Mount Ayr Girls Clinch Victory Led by Defending State Champion Jaylee Shaffer
In the girls varsity dual, Mount Ayr’s Jaylee Shaffer, a defending state champion, fired a one-over par 38 to earn medalist honors. Her teammate Izzy Gilbertson finished in runner-up position with a 48. Creston’s top contender, Ricci Johnston, trailed closely with a 49. Mount Ayr triumphed again with a team score of 218 to Creston’s 234, fueled by strong play from Claire Routh (63), Alyssa Doolittle (69), and Dallas Newton (71).
The meet also featured heartfelt recognition, honoring Creston seniors Izzy Spencer, Chasse Downing, Ethan Holliday, Marshall Long, Kylen Parsons, Gabe Blazek, and Kaizer Smith before the dual play.
Both Creston teams remain active this week, having played Atlantic on Tuesday. The boys squad is headed to Denison this Wednesday to compete in the Hawkeye Ten Tournament, setting the stage for critical postseason preparation.
